The Lake County Housing Authority’s Home Improvement Grant Program will assist low-income homeowners by providing financial assistance for home improvements. The funds can be used for minor home improvements such as: minor roof repairs, window replacement, new furnaces or heating units, or repairs to septic tanks. Some other improvements maybe: electrical improvements, plumbing, heating and cooling unit replacement or paving driveway but not limited to. The Homeowner must secure a minimum of three (3) estimates from licensed, bonded and insured contractors. LCHA will make a one- time payment on the behalf of the homeowner to the licensed, bonded and insured contractor of their choice from the 3 estimates submitted to LCHA. This program will provide a one-time payment assistance to help pay or reduce the cost of their home improvements. This program is not a loan, the homeowners do not have to pay back the money they were awarded. Unless, the homeowner commits fraud. If the home improvements are not performed by the contractor the money must be returned to LCHA. The home must be the homeowner’s primary resident and the home must not be in foreclosure.
All applications will be process by a HUD Certified Housing Counselor and the homeowners will have the option to receive one -on-one post-purchase, financial, and others housing counseling services provided at LCHA. Please contact the Housing Counselor for eligibility requirements and application.
